Overcoming Connectivity Challenges in a Historic Office Space

Challenge Overview

During a major refurbishment, the client at 42-43 Bedford Row discovered a tangled and extensive network of data cabling running throughout their building, a converted Victorian house now used as an office.

The structure’s intricate layout made it particularly difficult to trace and assess the viability of the existing cables.

Aware of the potential costs and environmental impact of replacing the entire system, the client engaged Zetta Connect to evaluate whether the current cabling could be reused while ensuring a reliable and efficient network.

The Zetta Solution

To bring order to the complex cabling infrastructure, Zetta Connect installed a new 29U floor-standing data cabinet in the landlord’s existing comms room.

Our team meticulously traced and identified 310 previously cut cables, labelling them and matching them to corresponding outlets where possible. Once identified, the cables were re-terminated into new copper panels within the cabinet, ensuring an organised and functional setup.

To guarantee performance and reliability, every connection was rigorously tested using a Fluke tester, with all results carefully documented for future reference. By maximising the use of existing infrastructure, we helped the client achieve significant cost savings while reducing carbon emissions, all without compromising on network efficiency or future scalability.

The Result

By repurposing the existing cabling, Zetta Connect provided the client with a cost-effective and environmentally friendly solution, ensuring a fully optimised and future-proofed network. The upgraded infrastructure not only improved connectivity but also reduced unnecessary waste and expenses.
